Put some south in your mouth - Dinner at 151 Grill

So, we heard about this place in the newspaper about two weeks ago and have never eaten there. Now, if you have read my blog before, or follow it regularly you know we love BBQ and we eat at all types of places around NY.  Naturally we had to check out 151's.  We were excited by what they were doing on their menu, items that no one around the way was doing; cheese grits, chicken and waffles, pretzel sliders, sweet potato tots with fluff, to name a few.

Continue reading to see what we ate and how we liked it.

Place is located in a little strip right off the Taconic Parkway on Hardscrabble Road... you can't miss it, well I guess you could but you shouldn't.

The place was really nice inside which I didn't really expect. It was very big too, with a very nice bar area, and outdoor patio dining, along with the rustic main dining room that you see above.

So Tiffany was our waitress. She was very nice and shared a lot of info with us along with suggestions.  We originally wanted to order the highly suggested sliders to start with, but they ran out of pretzel bread, yeah I said PRETZEL BREAD. So we went with the sweet potato tots with marshmallow fluff sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and they were so good. Definitely not something I've ever seen on any other BBQ menu or any menu for that matter..it reminded me of a dish my mother makes for Thanksgiving.

For my dinner, I was torn as to what to order. You come to a BBQ place and you want to have yummy smoked brisket or pulled pork or even ribs.  After a long internal debate I went left (like I usually do being a lefty lol) and ordered the chicken and waffles since I've never had it but had always wanted it, and its rare to see it on a menu up North. Man was I happy I ordered it! Deciding on a side was also hard, what do you get as a side with chicken and waffles? I was going to go with cheese grits just to try them, but Tiffany steered me in the right direction and I went with the biscuits & gravy. Well they were amazing! Easily the best thing I ate that night, and the chicken was cooked perfectly; juicy, light, crispy breading, perfect spice and mixing it all together with the waffles and syrup...oh man you gotta try it!

Of course no one goes to a BBQ and doesn't get a few staples like brisket and mac n cheese, but here we also got burnt ends which I've only heard about and they were so great. Perfectly smoked, their rub is on point, the sauces all bring something different to the table. Can't wait to try the pulled pork n ribs next time we go.

These other local BBQ spots aren't smoking like these guys but I think it safe to say we found our new favorite BBQ place, and with a smoker like this how could you stay away.
